UNIWASTEC’s hydrothermal carbonization enables energy-efficient drying of pre-dewatered sewage sludge.

During this process, the valuable phosphate can be recovered in plant-available form. At temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius, a pressure of 20 to 35 bar and with the addition of a catalyst, the sewage sludge is carbonised.

It is then possible to separate the liquid phase from the solid phase and feed both phases for further processing. The phosphate dissolved in the liquid phase (HTC process water) is bound in a granulate.
